Ajax loan for Timmer
Injuries to Bogdan Lobont and Joe Didulica left Amsterdam coach Ronald Koeman with just Maarten Stekelenburg as a first-team option, prompting the club to decide another addition would be required.
A meeting between Koeman and technical director Leo Beenhakker resulted in Timmer being their favoured option and contact was made earlier in the week.
Timmer was initially reticent about making the move, but eventually committed himself to a season-long loan deal on Thursday.
The 30-year-old spent last season on loan at Feyenoord, but a price could not be agreed for a permanent transfer and he returned to AZ.
Oscar Moens is the number one in Alkmaar, leaving Timmer languishing in the reserves.
His move to the Amsterdam ArenA will see him challenge Stekelenburg for the starting spot in the opening weeks of the season, but the fear is that he will be forced down the pecking order when Lobont and Didulica return to fitness.
