Wicklow GAA have announced the appointment of former Wexford All-Ireland winner Eamonn Scallan as their new hurling manager.

The Ferns St Aidan's club-man represented Wexford throughout the 1990s, winning two Leinster titles and of course that Liam MacCarthy triumph in 1996.

Scallan managed the Model County's minor sides in recent times, while also being involved in the senior backroom team.

He now turns his attention to Wicklow hurling. The Leinster side will be competing in the Christy Ring Cup in 2019, having fallen at the semi-final stage to London last year, and will warm up in Division 2B of the National Hurling League.

The addition of a manager who has scaled to the peak of the sport in his playing career will act as a serious boost to the Garden County, as they aim to progress in the coming years.
