Josies Orders, winner of the cross-country chase at this year's Cheltenham Festival, is out for the rest of the season.
The eight-year-old, trained by Enda Bolger, will not be able to defend his crown in March but is expected to race again next term.
He had been ante-post favourite for this season's event ever since scooting to victory at the Festival under Nina Carberry and had only run once since, over hurdles at Galway in October.
"He has met with a setback and will be out for the season," said Frank Berry, racing manager to owner J P McManus.
"He won't make Cheltenham in March. He'll be back next season."
