Diamond King to stay over hurdles this season

Donald McCain's exciting prospect Diamond King will remain over hurdles this season and could go to Catterick on Friday.

McCain had planned on sending Diana Whateley's seven-year-old over fences this term but that option has now been put on hold due to a lack of suitable opportunities.

He was entered at Ascot on Saturday but the same owners decided to run Greatwood winner Garde La Victoire instead, so McCain has looked for alternatives.

"The Whateleys had Garde La Victoire in the Ascot race and chose to run him, which is fine," said McCain.

"We've decided we're going to kick on over hurdles with him now, the novice chase programme doesn't really help at this time of year. So, in the short term he'll stay over hurdles.

"There's a race at Catterick for him and there's a good chance he'll run there, or if not he could go to Cheltenham next weekend."
