Former jockey Phillip Makin enjoyed his first winner as a trainer on Monday when Galloway Hills struck at Redcar.
Formerly trained by David Elsworth, the four-year-old came home three-quarters of a length clear of Ben Haslam's Epeius in the Remembering Susan Rushby Handicap under Sam James to win at 15-2.
The fact the success came at Redcar will not be lost on Makin, who was forced to retire as a result of injuries sustained in a fall at the Teesside track.
Makin broke a bone in his neck and hurt his back in a nasty tumble from Eyecatcher in August and began training in March when fully recovered.
Galloway Hills was just his ninth runner.
