Helpston is set to return to Wetherby for the Towton Novices' Chase on Saturday week after connections opted to swerve the Sky Bet Chase.
The eight-year-old finished a creditable second to subsequent Peter Marsh winner According To Pete in the Rowland Meyrick Chase at the track last time.
The Cambridgeshire-based handler said: "The plan is for Helpston to run in the Towton Novices' Chase.
"He has been fine since the Rowland Meyrick. I did have him in the Sky Bet Chase (run at Doncaster on Saturday), but because he has not had a lot of racing I'm erring on the side of caution, and going the novice route.
"I was delighted with his run in the Rowland Meyrick - I thought Gina Andrews gave him a great ride considering she had never sat on him before.
"He goes on better ground - I don't know whether he would want it heavy because he is very big. He has had two cracked pelvises, hence why he hasn't had a lot of racing."
