Improving, unexposed runner holds big chance

Edinburgh Knight has sound claims in Saturday's William Hill Lincoln at Doncaster according to trainer Paul D'Arcy. The five-year-old ended last term in great form, winning a handicap at Ascot over seven furlongs before stepping up to a mile for the first time in a Listed race at Kempton, running out a ready winner. Always highly thought of, he will have to defy a welter burden in one of the most competitive races of the year, but d'Arcy feels he has more improvement to come at the mile trip. He said: "Historically five-year-olds have a really good record in the race. This horse is unexposed at a mile so I think he's got a really good chance. "Anything from good, good to firm ground will be fine. He has won on soft ground, but over a mile he'd want it quicker. "He's done some really good work and he's ready, I don't need to do any more with him. "Now is the hard bit, not doing anything with him. It's easy when there is something to do with him as you can plan what to do but this horse is ready, I don't need to do any more and now it's just getting him to the races," he told At The Races.
