A swift improvement in the weather is essential if Leicester are to stage their Flat meeting on Saturday. Officials have called an inspection for 8am on Thursday after 13 millimetres of rain fell on Wednesday to bring the amount of precipitation in the last three weeks to 106mm. "We've had a little look this afternoon and things have deteriorated dramatically," said clerk of the course Jimmy Stevenson. "We did have a couple of dry days and we were getting hopeful, but it has really knocked us back now. "It's still raining and we still have a fair bit to come. We'll have a look on Thursday morning, take stock and see what the forecast is. "It needs to improve quite a bit." The going is described as heavy, waterlogged in places.
