Connections opt against shelling out £30,000

Nell Gwyn Stakes winner Esentepe will not be supplemented for the Qipco 1000 Guineas. The daughter of Oratorio took the historic contest on her second start of the season, holding off the Group One-winning Nayarra at Newmarket. In the immediate aftermath some of the Middleham Park Racing syndicate who own the filly were keen to fork out the £30,000 supplementary fee but that plan has now been shelved. "Some of the owners might have got a bit excited but when we talked it over we decided not to supplement," said Middleham Park's Tim Palin. "She might go for the Musidora at York or there's a Group Three 1000 Guineas Trial over in Ireland in mid-May in which she would escape a penalty. "We'll look at both races and then make a decision. She is entered in the Coronation Stakes, too. "She's bred to be better at 10 furlongs as both her her sire and dam won over that trip. "In essence, the further we have asked her to race the better she has been. Time will tell."
