McMahon ace back on the track after injury

Temple Meads is on target to make his first racecourse appearance for 19 months in the Pearl Bloodstock Palace House Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday. The Avonbridge colt was a smart two-year-old, winning the Group Two Mill Reef Stakes, but he has not been seen since finishing last behind Dream Ahead in the Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket in October 2010. "He's on course to run but it's probably the softest ground he's ever encountered, although he did win on good to soft, first time out as a two-year-old," said his trainer Ed McMahon. "He's been on the go a fair time and we've got to get him out. It will just depend if the ground will affect him or not. "He hasn't run for over 12 months. If everything goes right, we are on course for one or two planned races. "Let's just hope he can come back to be as good as he was as a two-year-old. "He's just had a little problem, but it's kept him off the track and you can't run with problems. "He'll be fit enough to do himself justice on Saturday. We'll have to see how the ground is. I just hope we don't get too much more rain." McMahon also plans to run Astrophysical Jet in the Group Three sprint over five furlongs. She was beaten favourite in this race 12 months ago after ending the previous campaign with two victories at that level. She failed to make the frame in all her subsequent starts in 2011 and unseated her rider when hampered on her seasonal reappearance at Bath. "She'll run. She's got one or two little issues, but hopefully by the end of the season we will have ironed those out," said the Lichfield trainer. "She's been very good on her day. With some horses it's mind over matter with them. That's what you have to put up with. "Some come back and some don't, but she's got residual value regardless of whatever she does again this season. You can't take away from her what she's done."
