Ursa Major may have done enough for the season following a creditable effort in the St Leger as connections plan ahead to his next campaign.
Holiday beckons for Classic fourth
Ursa Major's creditable effort in his first Group One race in the Ladbrokes St Leger may have been his last outing this season.
The Tommy Carmody-trained stayer is regarded as a Cup horse for next year after he kept on gamely to claim fourth place behind Encke and Camelot in the Doncaster Classic on Saturday.
The Galileo colt had won four of his previous six starts this season and finished second on the other two as he came through the ranks.
"He ran a very solid race. We were asking big questions of him and when Encke went by him most horses folded up and dropped away but he didn't. He galloped all the way to the line," said Tim Jones, racing manager to owner Andrew Tinkler.
Genuine Racehorse
"He's game, wonderfully honest and pretty talented. He stuck his head out and is a proper genuine racehorse.
"I think his future is rosy. He obviously gets that mile and six well. He should get beyond that, and that brings in the Cup races into vision for next year.
"He's an exciting horse to have on the team from that point of view.
"I think that probably would be it for him this season. He's been on the go since early on in the year and hasn't shirked an opportunity.
"The sensible thing would be to give him a nice winter and see how he develops. We look forward to a good Cup campaign next year."
