Henry Daly was delighted to keep his excellent run of form going at his local track as Pickamus secured a significant prize in the Boyne Cup at Ludlow.
Daly went on to complete a double as 4-1 shot Tara Mist made a most impressive racecourse debut under Richard Johnson in the mares' bumper.Trainer Ian Williams also enjoyed two triumphs on the afternoon, initiating the brace with the returning Bobcatbilly in the Shukers Landrover Of Ludlow Novices' Handicap Chase.
Sent off at 7-2 for his chasing debut and first start since running down the field at Sandown almost a year ago,
Tom Scudamore's mount got the better of hot favourite King Massini by a head.
Williams said: "He did it nicely and has always promised to be a chaser. It's nice to see them come up with the goods.
"He came back from Sandown at the end of last year with a little bit of an injury. Like a good few of the horses, we just couldn't get him right during the spring, so we sent him away early and he has come back well this season.
"Will Kennedy came in and schooled him yesterday (Tuesday) and said he would go very well today. Sadly for Will, Tom was riding him today, but it's a team effort and everyone is happy.
"The horses are running well. If they are healthy it makes the job easy and we have a lot to look forward to."
Williams struck again as last week's Doncaster winner Portway Flyer (4-9 favourite) comfortably defied a penalty in the Ludlow Conditional Jockeys' Novices' Handicap Hurdle in the hands of Gavin Sheehan.
Flying Phoenix made a winning debut for trainer Michael Blake in the Racing UK Mares' Handicap Hurdle.
Runner-up in a claiming hurdle at Towcester 10 days earlier and snapped up for £5,000, the five-year-old almost repaid that fee at the first time of asking as she struck by six lengths under Josh Wall as a 6-4 favourite.
Blake said: "I'm delighted with her and I think flatter tracks suit her well. I think she'll be better again on better ground, as she's all about speed. I'll probably run her again in a selling hurdle at Leicester next week."
Oscar Hill (13-8 favourite) made every yard of the running in the Perrott Properties Handicap Chase for trainer David Bridgwater and jockey Tom O'Brien.
The Fingers & Forks Catering Novices' Claiming Hurdle went to 7-2 shot Great Link.
