Mike Vince speaks with the big winners at the Cartier Awards including Lord Grimthorpe, John Gosden and Richard Hannon.

The brilliant miler Kingman has been named Horse of the Year at the prestigious Cartier Awards.

Trained by John Gosden for Prince Khalid Abdulla, the three year old suffered the only blip of his career when beaten in the 2000 Gioneas at Newmarket and his wins included spectacular displays at Royal Ascot and Glorious Goodwood.

The Kingman team also won the Best Older Horse award with the Champion Stakes winner Noble Mission, the full brother to the legendary Frankel.

Prince Khalid's Racing Manager is Teddy Grimthorpe.

John Gosden

It was a triumphant night for trainer John Gosden as he watched his stable star Kingman scoop two prizes, including the cherished Horse of the Year accolade, and Taghrooda pick up the Champion Three Year Old Filly award.

They were two of the major reasons why Gosden enjoyed a memorable 2014 and both horses have now been retired to stud.

The trainer spoke with Mike Vince.

Richard Hannon

Champion trainer Richard Hannon wound up his debut season by seeing one of his stable stars, Tiggy Wiggy, crowned as Champion Two Year Old Filly at the Cartier Awards.

The speed queen's successes iin 2014 included the Lowther Stakes at York and the Group One Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket.

Hannon is delighted.

Eddie Lynam

Irish trained horses claimed three Cartier Awards at the prestigious ceremony.

Gleneagles and Leading Light won for the Coolmore team and trainer Aidan O'Brien.

But the most popular winner was Sole Power, crowned Champion Sprinter after a memorable season which included triumphs at Royal Ascot and the Nunthorpe Stalkes at York.

His full brother Slade Power was also short listed for the coveted award, received by their owner Sabina Power.

Trainer Eddie Lynam was also in London for the ceremony and gave Mike Vince his reaction.
