Horse racing: Friday's meeting at Catterick abandoned; Chepstow on after passing inspection
Mixed fortunes for today's meetings following morning inspections
Friday 30 January 2015 21:23, UK
This afternoon's meeting at Catterick has been abandoned due to a frozen track but Chepstow goes ahead as planned.
Catterick's clerk of the course Fiona Needham was due to inspect conditions at 0800 GMT but a cold night has left the track frozen and covered in snow in places, forcing an earlier decision.
A statement from the course said: "Unfortunately racing today is abandoned following a cold night with temperatures reaching -6C and only forecast to reach 3C today."
There was better news at Chepstow with the course passed fit.
Clerk of the course Keith Ottesen was due to inspect conditions 0730 GMT but he was able to give the meeting the go-ahead earlier than planned after the forecast snow failed to materialise.
A total of six millimetres of rain fell the track overnight and the going is reported to be heavy.
