Andre Fabre raider in Sandown Classic Trial
Wednesday 22 April 2015 11:26, UK
Andre Fabre will make an early cross-Channel raid with Grey Lion who is one of five runners in Friday's bet365 Classic Trial at Sandown.
Grey Lion is unbeaten in two outings to date, winning over a mile at Saint-Cloud as a juvenile and over 10 furlongs on his return to the track last month.
A Galileo colt, he is a full-brother to Golden Lilac, who won the French 1000 Guineas and Oaks for Fabre.
Aidan O'Brien is bringing Cape Clear Island back over from Ireland, with the colt having already won a big sales race at Newmarket this season.
Charlie Hills runs a very interesting colt in Khalid Abdullah's Commemorative, winner of the Group Three Autumn Stakes last season.
He was last seen in action at the Breeders' Cup where he was not disgraced, beaten less than three lengths by Hootenanny.
Snoano looked promising for John Gosden last season, winning at Sandown and Newbury before he was possibly bogged down in the soft ground in the Racing Post Trophy and adds another interesting ingredient.
The final runner is Andre Balding's Master Apprentice, last of nine in the Criterium International at Saint-cloud when last seen.
The Group Two bet365 Mile has attracted a field of eight, headed by David O'Meara's Custom Cut.
Formerly trained in Ireland, Custom Cut was a revelation last season winning five on the bounce before he became unstuck on soft ground in the QEII on Champions Day.
Here Comes When was another who made good progress last year and takes him on, along with Charlie Appleby's Bow Creek, who won two Group Twos for Mark Johnston last summer.
Shifting Power, Breton Rock and Top Notch Tonto are other classy acts engaged.
The bet365 Gordon Richards Stakes sees the return to action of Sir Michael Stoute's exciting Cannock Chase, not seen since winning at Royal Ascot last June.
Gosden's Western Hymn, Luca Cumani's Postponed, Tulius and Ayrad complete the field.
