Aramist was an impressive winner of one of the feature races on the first day of Hamilton Park's new season as Kieren Fallon made a successful return to one of his happy hunting grounds.
Ridden along at the half-way point of the one-mile five-furlong Totepoolliveinfo.com Handicap, Alan Swinbank's gelding saw his stamina kick in climbing the famous 'Hamilton Hill' and stormed home up the outside to trounce Scrapper Smith by three and a half lengths.
The winning trainer said: "He's very, very tough and needs a good gallop. He was off the bridle and looked in trouble but when he was switched out by Kieren he really started to motor. This is his ground and he might go for a two-mile handicap at York next."
Fallon and Swinbank were back in the same berth in the winner's enclosure 35 minutes later after Ralphy Lad saw off Latin Rebel by four and a half lengths in the Superseal Handciap.
Swinbank added: "He's in grand form now but this horse took some time to come to himself. He has really blossomed this past six months and Kieren got to know him when they won together at Southwell last time.
"His owners, the Trio Sydicate, have been very patient with him so I'm delighted for them. Depending on the ground he could go for the Cumberland Plate at Carlisle next month."
Fallon said: "I've always loved coming up here and it's a great track to ride no matter what the ground is. They really look after you and I've ridden here for a long time."
Hopes N Dreams, who has a race named after her Hamilton Park in September, landed her eighth win at her favourite track when scoring a shade cosily for Paul Mulrennan in the six-furlong handicap earlier on the card.
