Veteran hangs up his saddle after latest suspension

Jockey Dean McKeown has confirmed that he will end his career after having his licence removed by the British Horseracing Authority. After being warned off for four years last month by the BHA, McKeown was allowed to continue riding pending an appeal, but he got into more trouble at Southwell on Tuesday. The 48-year-old was found guilty under the 'non-trier' rule for his ride on board Rascal In The Mix, and that has signalled the end of his career. With the BHA taking away McKeown's licence, the veteran jockey has decided not to contest any of the decisions and will instead retire from riding. "I don't want to ride any more," McKeown told the Racing Post. "The only reason I was hanging on was to ride Times Vital in the November Handicap but the horse is injured and not running. "It's a sad way to. "I had a good long innings and some great highlights, particularly with Collier Hill but there's no point continuing."
