Heavy rain forces meetings to be called off

Exeter and Leicester have been forced to abandon their meetings on Wednesday due to waterlogged tracks. Exeter had already been hit hard by the recent wet weather, but with a further 14 millimetres of rain falling on Tuesday night officials were left with no choice but to call off the meeting. Clerk of the course Barry Johnson said: "We had a lot of rain last night, which has taken us up to just under four inches in nine days. "There are false patches of ground and the course could not take any more rain." At Leicester, the overnight rain forced clerk of the course Jimmy Stevenson to call an impromptu 8am inspection. And with 13mm of rain having fallen overnight, Stevenson was left with no option but to cancel the fixture. "We've now had 13 millimetres of rain and it's an absolute nightmare," said Stevenson. "It's really disappointing because we had the track looking spot-on on Tuesday."
