Sprinter passes away after contracting infection

Richard Fahey's Malton stable has been rocked by the news that star sprinter Utmost Respect has died following complications stemming from surgery. The five-year-old originally underwent an operation to remove gravel in his foot but contracted a secondary infection diagnosed as peritonitis. This season's Group Two Duke of York Stakes winner had been in intensive care suffering from an inflammation of the membrane which covers the intestines within the abdomen. "He was a very good horse to me and everybody at the yard," said Fahey, who had trained the horse with great care in his younger days and his patience was only just starting to be repaid on the track. The son of Danetime won eight of 16 races, including his last three starts, and amassed prize money totalling £241,345.
