'Pegasus' flies home in emphatic style at Doncaster

Saamid is surely a colt on his way to the very top after following up his debut win at Newbury with a stunning victory in the Neptune Investment Management Champagne Stakes at Doncaster on Saturday. The Godolphin two-year-old left previous Group race winners Approve and Waiters Dream trailing in his wake to land the Group Two renewal with almost contemptuous ease. Jockey Frankie Dettori was happy to sit back in the Leger day opener on Town Moor and let Waiter's Dream and Kieron Fallon made most of the running in the 7f contest. But, when Dettori pushed the button two furlongs out, the response was breathtaking as the son of Dubai World Cup winner Street Cry swept through to take up the lead. The Italian rider barely needed to lift a finger as his mount stretched away to land top honours by two-and-a-half lengths and with plenty in hand from Grimcrack winner Approve. "From the first day I set my eyes on him I knew he was such a beautiful individual," said Dettori of the colt that is nicknamed Pegasus at Seed Bin Suroor's yard. "You can see how calm he is and he also has a good physique. He's done it really well."
