Family escaped unscathed
Oliver Sherwood has described Wednesday night as "the most frightening experience I've ever had in my life" after his house burned to the ground.
The trainer, his family and his dogs escaped from the blaze unscathed and Sherwood admits they were lucky to be awake when the fire started.
"It was probably the most frightening experience I've ever had in my life," Sherwood told
At The Races.
"I was watching football and my daughter went to have a bath and I suddenly heard screams and shouts.
House ruined
"I ran upstairs and she said there's a fire and I couldn't even see anything.
"Anyway, there was (a fire) at the top of the stairs, underneath the woodwork, the skirting boards and the floor boards and Tanya, my wife, rang the fire brigade.
"We went to stay with Warren and Tessa Greatrex later on and three parts of the house are pretty much ruined.
"The most important thing is we're all alive, we got the dogs out and it just beggars belief. If it had been 2am in the morning, I dread to think what would have happened.
"There is no sign of skulduggery, we think it's one or two things but it's very early days.
"I would like to thank everyone who has sent me messages and emails. It's very comforting and very much appreciated."
