Verdict
Martin Pipe, successful last year with Iznogoud, saddles both Carlovent and Korelo, but neither have strong claims. Telimar Prince has been creeping up the weights but running with distinction for Richard Rowe and will be battling at the finish. Anyone who saw Chopneyev get back up at Sandown after a mistake two out can testify to his guts, and an 11lb rise may not stop him here. The main rivals are the Mary Reveley inmates Whistling Dixie and Colourful Life. The latter comes good at this time of the year as proved by his success at Newcastle, and the form of his Pierse Hurdle second to Xenophon has worked out like a dream, with the third, Camden Tanner and the fifth, Spirit Leader, both scoring since. That gives Colourful Life 10lb in hand of Chopneyev, while Whistling Dixie is also the same amount better off for finishing third to Richard Phillips' five-year-old last time. Mercato could be alive outsider after trotting up at Plumpton on Monday and is at the right end of the handicap, while Exstoto comes from a shrewd stable in these type of events. A cracking race is in prospect, and we take Chopneyev to get home again.
