Verdict
Brian Meehan has timed his preparation of Park Romance to perfection and delivers her into the hands of Kieren Fallon with expectations high of her becoming his third Royal ascot winner since Autumnal landed the Windsor Castle Stakes in 2000. There are numerous unexposed fillies that will not make it easy for the selection; with the shortlist of alternatives headed by Masa, who coasted to a wide margin victory on turf at Lingfield and can be expected to make another bold bid from her good drawn near the stands' rail. While it will also be interesting to see how Umniya gets on after, what now looks a good effort in defeat, when she chased home Damson in Ireland 11 days ago. Mick Channon's charge is most exposed in the field though and it will not be surprising to see others have a little more to offer. Richard Hannon is another trainer that has enjoyed a fruitful spell in the build up to this meeting and had this race in mind for Jewel In The Sand straight after she won at Sandown last month. She is sure to cope with this first try at six furlongs and, although there is not much between her and Touch Of Silk, she does look to be going the right way and has to be considered for at least a place in the frame if support comes for her before the off. French-raider Chantilly Beauty will have the assistance of Johnny Murtagh as she makes her British debut and she is another to monitor for signs of confidence. However, she will need luck on her side from stall 12 and may need a little more juice in the ground to be seen at her best. In contrast to Park Romance, who bounced off the ground when getting off the mark in a decent looking maiden at Newmarket at the start of this month. The daughter of Dr Fong recorded a respectable time on that occasion and holds the edge over a few of these with the experience of this trip sure to be significant as things unfold. Factor into her profile the fact that her owner won the Queen Mary Stakes with a similar type in 2002 and everything looks in place for Park Romance to make Royal ascot a happy hunting ground for her connections again today.
