Verdict

Mores Wells could run well at a big price given that the drop in trip will suit however it is PINPOINT who is fancied to build on his good third in this race last year (at 16/1) with a win 12 months later. Walter Swinburn's son of Pivotal was very disappointing on his last start at Goodwood, especially given his good reappearance at Windsor and the fact that he had run well at Goodwood before. However we will give him a chance here now back on a slightly slower surface and a proven performer in big field handicaps (all wins in fields of 12 or more) he is taken to run well. Kingdom Of Fife is likely to be very popular and The Zetland Gold Cup winner will rightly start as favourite today. However there is likely to be little value in his price given his connections and whilst he got the run of the race up at Redcar, he is unlikely to have things as smooth today. Indian Days is a consistent sort for James Given and he ran a blinder in the Brigadier Gerard which looked a very good renewal, whilst Halicarnassus is a consistent old stick who has lots of experience for his age and he is a very solid Listed performer. Perks probably needs the heavens to open as he is best with some cut, whilst Stone Of Scone wasn't disgraced in defeat last time but his mark of 100 looks high enough for what he has actually achieved. Perfect Stride is capable of better, as are Alarazi and Kandidate now their sights are lowered. Recent winners Moonquake, Salute Him, Khateeb and Dream Lodge can all have a case made for them, but the last two might have stamina issues and the first two may not be too well-handicapped. The last favourite to win this race was Brilliant Red in 1999 so brace yourself for a shock, and fingers crossed it is Pinpoint who can provide it.
