Verdict

Mister Hardy is living up to his name with a string of fine wins however his latest 5lb rise in the weights may be the straw that breaks the camel's back and so we will plump for REDFORD who looks an ideal ride for 'man of the moment' Richard Hughes and he tops the shortlist of Swift Gift, Shamwari Lodge, Six Of Hearts and Mutheeb. Redford has had a reputation for a while now, as Michael Bell's four-year-old was fancied by many to make up into a top three-year-old handicapper last year. That never really materialised despite a win at Newcastle and a fair sixth in the International heritage handicap over this course and distance in July. A reappearance at Haydock was below par but he is a hold up performer who needs a good tempo and the strong pace of this race looks sure to suit with a fine 'waiting jockey' booked for the ride. Shamwari Lodge is a progressive three-year-old who ran well at Epsom and takes on older rivals for the first time; despite a 9lb weight for age allowance it is still a tough task and he is passed over along with recent winners Tartan Gigha and Novellan Lad who may both have been aimed primarily at those previous races. Celtic Sultan, Something, Mutheeb and Horatio Carter can all count consistency amongst their attributes, but of more interest may be Seasider. It is intriguing that connections have persevered with him after injury and any market support on this comeback from 401 days on the sidelines would be of interest. Musaalem is a big player now stepped back up to seven furlongs; he likes quick ground and if the rain stays away he will run well. Drawnfromthepast has a good Royal Ascot history, whilst Harrison George is paying the price for his consistency and is probably handicapped out of winning now. Slugger O'Toole may have been aimed at this race, so along with South Cape and Golden Desert, these shrewd operators must be considered. Swift Gift sprang a surprise last time but is not to be underestimated again, along with Six Of Hearts who is 6lb higher than a recent win at Naas but may not be done with just yet. Not the easiest of races to finish another fantastic afternoon of races, and indeed the average sp of winners in the last seven years has been 17/1, and our verdict is given to Redford.
