Verdict

Third in the Dubai Turf following an interrupted preparation, RIBCHESTER (NAP) made no mistake in the Group 1 Lockinge at Newbury last month, making all and beating Lightning Spear almost four lengths. An easy winner of the Jersey Stakes at this meeting last year, Richard Fahey’s stable star later won the Jacques Le Marois at Deauville and also beat Lightning Spear again when a close second in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes here in October - he is a worthy hot favourite today. Mutakayyef developed into a high-class performer last season and won a Group 2 here last July. But he was behind the selection at Meydan in March and there seems no reason why he should the reverse the form having not raced since. Deauville has never won over a mile but has tasted success at Grade 1 level in the States. US challengers American Patriot and Miss Temple City have similar credentials but the others, with the possible exception of the returning Dutch Connection, have some improving to do if they are to get involved.
