Verdict

Chic has gone from strength to strength this season and she can land the opening race on the last day of Royal Ascot. The beautifully-bred daughter of Machiavellian has also had a light campaign, which should stand her in good stead. Her Listed win at Kempton last time confirmed her progressive nature and, physically, she has the scope to keep on improving. Hold To Ransom disappointed in the Musidora Stakes after running well in the Pretty Polly (Oblige was three-and-a-half lengths away in third), but may have been freshened up by a break. Nasij was fourth in a fair Newbury Listed event in April after earlier beating Oblige by a length-and-a-half at Kempton. Oblige has since disappointed in the Lupe Stakes but may not have handled the track that day. Sharplaw Venture's finest hour came here over five furlongs in a valuable sales race last autumn but more is required at this step up in trip. Londonnetdotcom's second at Epsom last time was a best yet this season, while first-time blinkers might help the Fred Darling fourth Goodness Gracious step up on her game. Wondrous Story was behind Londonnetdotcom's at Epsom but, as that was her first run for seven months, she is entitled to improve. Much more is needed from the others for them to get competitive.
