In depth

Verdict

A typically tough finale can go to course specialist Mana D'Argent, who just gets the nod over Escayola and Lodger, while Corton will also be very interesting if he is supported. The Paul Cole-trained gelding may just have needed the run when he was third on his reappearance - a run that should have put him spot on for this. He has gone very well here in the past and, assuming he stays the trip on the predicted going, he could easily get involved in the shake-up. Another to note is Peak Of Perfection, who is also unexposed at the trip. He gets in off a featherweight in comparison to some and, with Phillip Robinson again in the plate, he looks sure to benefit from a tactical ride today. Nevertheless, this course brings the absolute best out of Mana D'Argent, who has registered five of his six course wins over this distance. Darryll Holland almost dragged a victory out of the selection the last time he got the leg up on the gelding and knows plenty about the temperament of this enigmatic old character. The return to his beloved Ascot improves him no end and he can gain win number seven if all goes well today.
