In depth

Verdict

Tipsy Prince, Sweet Candy and Lovers Kiss are the three to concentrate on and the most tentative of votes goes to Tipsy Prince. The ground has to be a serious worry as very few of today's runners have shown any aptitude for it but Geraldine Rees would not have sent the gelding on the long journey North if she didnt believe that he could get away with it this once. Sweet Candy ran well in a sales race at Newmarket under similar conditions. Her recent run at Ascot can be forgiven as she was out of her depth. Lovers Kiss is not one of the more obvious runners here but the filly is in off a low weight and has shown an aptitude for the surface. She could provide definite each-way value in a race of imponderables. Davaye won a handicap on good-to-firm ground last time out and conditions could not be more different here. Merry Moon has an obvious chance on breeding but does have to reverse form with a number of these runners on previous meetings. Soviet Sound has shown little in maidens but is of obvious interest with Paul Hanagan aboard. A trappy affair in which Tipsy Prince is offered to minimum stakes.
