In depth

Verdict

Not a strong maiden by any stretch of the imagination and First Mate could be good enough to account for Go On Green. Mark Johnston's colt (who should not be confused with the Roy Bowring charge of a similar name) was quietly backed at Carlisle on debut and showed every sign that he would be better for a step up in trip. Ed Dunlop won this two years ago with Epiphany and he is represented by Go On Green. Unfancied on debut, he ran a solid race at Folkestone and has to be in the reckoning on the long journey North. Rabbit Fighter shaped with some promise on his Newmarket debut and is likely to be raced up with the pace. Stay Active has ran green on two starts and is capable of better. Loch Clutha has been disappointing and is opposed. Having considered the alternatives, First Mate looks the percentage call.
