      Verdict

Banknote, Namroud and Military Cross are the three that catch the eye here and Banknote is given the nod. A winner at Ayr three outings ago, Namroud still looks well treated on the evidence of a decent second at Pontefract last time. This is a competitive affair but Richard Fahey's runner can go well. Military Cross continues to run well in good handicaps without winning, and his consistency has been rewarded by climbing the handicap. He ran well again at Ascot recently and can play a part but there may be others better treated. Andrew Balding has always held Banknote in high regard and this has been vindicated as he has won three of his last five starts, including a decisive win over this course and distance last time. That was a significant improvement on his previous effort, and although that was on fast ground, he can show his form on an easy surface so any rain would not be a problem. Banknote is only five pounds higher and has had a break and can claim this prize.
