Verdict

Grand Canal narrowly beat Red Force One in a three-runner affair over 1m5f here last month and the latter had also gone close over a longer trip before that. Witham River never threatened the winner when third at Ripon but SPANTIK went close when runner-up at the same track on his penultimate start. Caught in the closing stages over 2m on that occasion, this intermediate distance should suit and he gets the nod.
