Previous winners have a habit of running well in this race the following season but Al Co, who was hampered and unseated his rider at the first in last week's Crabbie's Grand National, is 7lb worse off than when less than two lengths ahead of TRUSTAN TIMES last year. Don't be fooled by the latter's form figures this season as this will have been his long-term target and the handicapper has given him every chance of ending his losing run. Having a hard race at the Cheltenham Festival can take the edge of chasers but it didn't do Gold Cup sixth Many Clouds any harm in last week's Crabbie's Grand National and the National Hunt Chase has produced a couple of recent winners. Godsmejudge, in 2013, and Beshabar, two years earlier, were both placed in the novices' four-miler at The Festival previously and Broadway Buffalo was second in that race this year. But though David Pipe's seven-year-old won at Haydock in December, he fell in the Grand National Trial at that track in February when Lie Forrit beat old rival Harry The Viking. Sego Success and Cogry look held on Cheltenham running however. Goonyella beat Raz De Maree in the Midlands National at Uttoxeter but is now 10lb higher and that form has taken a couple of knocks recently. Jim Dreaper's stayer also has nothing in hand on Gallant Oscar on their run together in the Thyestes Chase at Gowran in January and the latter ran well behind The Druid's Nephew at Cheltenham last month so goes on the short-list.
