      Verdict

Abbondanza goes well fresh and Howard Johnson's charge can get the better of Frank Crow and Shot To Fame . The selection returned from a long break to win a Newcastle maiden in good style, beating two horses rated in the mid-eighties. He was highly tried after that and has also had a few training problems. If back to his best his current mark of 82 could be very fair indeed. Shot To Fame is a consistent performer in this type of company but the slight concern is the step up in trip. He hasn't found much at the end of his races and so he is given the elbow on this occasion. The last time Frank Crow ran further than a mile he flopped badly. However he did win very gamely last time and does look a major tthreat. Primo Way looks to be the best of the rest, but Abbondanza could be nicely treated here and he gets our vote.
