In depth

Verdict

An awful start to proceedings can go the way of Champagne Rossini ahead of Leighton Buzzard, Harpurs Girl and Ghaill Force. Absolutely nothing stands out here, and unless there is a huge gamble on any of the others, the recent third of Champagne Rossini at Fakenham makes him one of the more likelier candidates. Michael Chapman's charge only lost second on the run-in after taking it up three out, and he does not have any more to do today to make amends. Leighton Buzzard takes a slight drop in grade but has to give weight away all round, while Harpurs Girl in contrast languishes near the bottom of the racecard and may find the faster conditions to her liking. Ghaill Force was never in contention at Fakenham last time and it is hard to see him beating the selection, which by a process of elimination has to be Champagne Rossini.
