Verdict
An interesting curtain raiser to the Ayr card can go to Mangham, who is narrowly preferred to Dubai Time and the well-bred newcomer Pearl Trader. The last named - a 200,000gns purchase - is the first foal of 2003 Oaks winner Vintage Tipple and is in the right hands to be found a race as she gains in experience. Mark Johnston had numerous options for this race at the five-day stage, so obviously it has to be of interest that Pearl Trader was the pick of the crop. A betting market move would be very dangerous to ignore. Dubai Time was well backed on his debut at Beverley and posted a very pleasing effort. He was just denied in a driving finish but can be expected to have learned plenty from the outing. Kevin Ryan's charge looks a winner in the making and is worth keeping tabs on whatever happens. Similar comments apply to Harrison George and Prince Kalamoun, who have both shown ability and looks certain to make their mark in nurseries. However, Mangham just edges the verdict on this occasion. The form of his debut looks strong and, as he appeared to relish the give underfoot at Redcar, he looks sure to be suited by the ground. Bryan Smart has an already impressive 20% strike-rate with his two-year-olds this season and this son of Montjeu can do his bit to boost the statistics even further with a bold show today.
