In depth
Verdict
Kavi is the selection to make amends for his unlucky defeat at the hands of a big outsider at Stratford last Saturday, with newcomer Downtherefordancin expected to run well. The latter may well be sent off as favourite due to the fact that he is trained by Martin Pipe, and lines up on the back of a win on the Flat at Windsor in June. However, Kavi was expected six days ago but was collared by a 100-1 shot. You cannot account for such things and Pat Haslam's charge is fancied to make amends here. He holds Aldirous on that form, and as he had another Pipe inmate behind in the same race, confidence is high that he can repeat the feat, only this time as the winner of what is not a strong contest, the two main protagonists apart. Kavi gets the vote.
