Verdict

An open contest where WELCOME APPROACH is taken to go one better than last time and win it, with Captain Kallis and Best One among the dangers. The selection is rated around a stone below his form on artificial surfaces when he races on turf, but the drop to a mark of 49 last time out almost enabled him to get home in front when he was just held at Hamilton. This stiff 5f should suit him, and we will side with him to score. Captain Kallis has not yet won from 11 attempts on turf, but he has gone well in defeat, including on good to firm and over this course and distance last time, so he merits plenty of respect. Best One races over his optimum trip and he seems to go on most surfaces. He is on a competitive mark and should be involved. Avrilo has so far proved impossible to win with, but she has made the frame on several occasions at this track and has to be in the mix again with the ground of no concern. Mazzola has dropped to a handy mark and could show more, while Mr Loire has won here and has enough ability to be thereabouts, though we prefer the claims of Welcome Approach.
