Verdict

CAPTAIN OATS pleased many a racegoer when finally breaking his maiden status with a success over track and trip on his penultimate start at the age of 11. He's now performed creditably on his last three outings and there's every chance of another success with the underrated Rosie Jessop's claim seeing him receive 1lb from obvious danger, Fair Comment. The latter was beaten under a length in a desperate finish here last time in maiden handicap company and will surely land a low-grade contest sooner or later, although the assessor is inching him up the weights despite his lack of success. Walter De La Mare disappointed last time but his previous second to Glens Wobbly here brings him bang into calculations, as does consistent hurdling form earlier in the year, especially with apprentice find of the season, Cam Hardie, claiming a valuable 5lb.
