In depth

Verdict

Fanan didn't run too badly recently on a first start since a gelding operation although he needs to settle better in races. He looks on a decent mark for this handicap debut if Simon Crisford can elicit some improvement, which could well be the case after just three runs. Winged Spur was the easy winner of a Ripon seller a week ago and could well follow up but FINAL ROCK is preferred. He showed very little as a juvenile, never going off at less than 40/1 but he's been gelded, should appreciate the step-up to a mile and is just the sort his trainer has improved dramatically over the years. He is risky and market support would strengthen confidence. The penultimate run of Macho Mover also brings him into contention.
