In depth

Verdict

Ryedale Ovation is a progressive sort and can pay to follow again, with City For Conquest and Hotham two likely dangers. Ryedale Ovation only had to be pushed out to open his account at Redcar on his last outing, and if fit enough after a five-month break, can start where he left off. He is certainly not as exposed as City For Conquest who has won twice and who has been kept busy of late. He never got going behind Choysia at Haydock last time and might just be feeling the effects of his campaign. Hotham looked one to follow when third on his Salisbury debut at the end of August, but this brother to no less than seven winners failed to build on that at Doncaster last week. Mind you, that was in the DBS St Leger Yearling Stakes, and he could easily figure in the finish this time. The rest make little appeal and we are happy to side with Ryedale Ovation.
