In depth
Verdict
An ordinary maiden can go to Rocamadour, who edges the vote over the unexposed River Liffey and Tcherina, who have both dropped hints that there are races to be won with them. It could also pay to keep an eye on the betting surrounding Mark Johnston's newcomer Indonesia as well, as he is related a couple of juvenile winners and, as he hails from the top yard in the north, he can be expected to know what is required of him at the first time of asking. River Liffey handled the soft ground well enough when he raced at Chester nine days ago to be given a solid recommendation for a big run here. However, that effort did come in claiming company and he is obviously no world beater. Tcherina is also vulnerable to an improving sort and has to prove ability to handle cut in the ground. Therefore, Rocamadour looks to have been found a good opportunity to shine here. He was far from disgraced in the Washington Singer at Newbury on his debut, as he finished only three-quarters-of-a-length behind the 100-rated Brecon Beacon at the line. The son of Celtic Swing still holds a Royal Lodge Stakes entry and can use this as a platform to boost his confidence before going on to better things in the future.
