Verdict
The David Barron-trained Penwell Hill could be the answer to a tricky contest, where not too many can confidently be ruled out as they are all hard to win with. Tokewanna and Skiddaw Jones hold fair claims on their recent form and are preferred over Shamwari Fire as the biggest dangers. The last named is versatile regarding his best trip and should not be inconvenienced by the drop back to seven furlongs. However, he is far from certain to arrive here in the same frame of mind he was in when winning at Folkestone and may be best left alone this time around. Tokewanna will appreciate this ease in grade after finding life hard in handicaps this summer. Nevertheless, her record of 17 straight previous defeats speaks for itself and she is another to be wary of for win only purposes. Which brings us to Penwell Hill, who ran by far his best race for a while at Musselburgh when he was last seen out. Barron has freshened him up since then and will no doubt have him primed now that he qualified to run in races of this nature. The fact that he just scraps into the reckoning at the ceiling of the ratings band underlines that he is one of the more reliable performers on show. Which will obviously do him no harm as Penwell Hill bids to register his first ever win on turf.
