In depth

Verdict

Go Solo has hit form at just the right time and can account for the likes of Sualda, Lucayan Dancer and Tcherina, with Sporting Gesture, Waterloo Corner and Scotland Yard all respected. There are certainly plenty in with chances here, but Alan Swinbank, who also runs Cotton Eyed Joe, has leading claims with Go Solo who showed that he has peaked at the right time when coming good at Hamilton recently. That was the five-year-old's fourth outing of the current campaign, and as he stayed on to score, a return to this longer trip will come in handy as he bids to follow up. Sualda made up for a narrow defeat at Thirsk by scoring on that same Hamilton card, and although having his fair share of weight, is another that has come good at the right time. He can prove to be a danger along with Lucayan Dancer who came from behind to win at Chester. Tcherina has been there or thereabouts since landing an apprentice event at York, but ideally needs further on latest evidence, while of the rest, Sporting Gesture is a standing dish in this, having taken part in the last three runnings. His best placing was second in 2003, and he is not much higher in the handicap now, so should not be ruled out of calculations. The three-year-old Scotland Yard was suited by the step up to 12 furlongs when making all at Ripon, and this lightly-raced sort should go well despite a 5lb penalty, but in a most open affair, we remain loyal to Go Solo.
