    Verdict

This is a wide open contest, with most of the field only offering low grade form. In a race such as this, it is worth taking a chance on a runner with wins to his credit, who is coming down the handicap and Pirners Brig is the selection, ahead of Rothesay Dancer and Miacarla. Pirner's Brig has won twice on the all-weather, including a success at Southwell in March, and he is re-united with his winning pilot that day, Paul Mulrennan here. He is only two pounds higher than when scoring at Southwell, and with a decent draw here, he can spring a surprise. Rothesay Dancer will be a popular selection after a good second on an easy surface at Musselburgh last week. However, she has been heavily campaigned since her last success, a year ago. Her wins have been on a faster surface, and with only two victories from 39 starts, she is taken on. Miacarla lost her maiden tag at Redcar two outings ago, and then ran well in defeat at Musselburgh. She is lightly raced and has some scope, especially with her trainer back in form. Pirner's Brig can prove a rock for his punters.
