Verdict

Amateurs' races can be deceptive but there was no denying the authority with which GIOVANNI JACK won at Musselburgh last week and a 6lb penalty should be easily brushed aside if in the same kind of mood. Jan Smuts is a strong stayer at this sort of level and should ensure a good gallop but the lightly-raced maiden Arcamante looks to have more of a chance. Karl Burke's three-year-old hasn't been beaten far in staying events at Sandown and Goodwood recently and, with further progress likely, can ensure the selection doesn't have everything his own way. Miss Macnamara completed a course and distance double in May and has been unable to handle the weight rise but she's now dropped to just 2lb higher so isn't without a chance with Kevin Stott's claim a bonus.
