Verdict

The fact that the useful Whatmore and Sensulano are only reserves is testament to the quality that this novices’ handicap has attracted. Both would be interesting if getting a run in a race in which only 7lb separates top from bottom. Mick Channon sent out Mister Whitaker to win this two years ago and Hold The Note was second over 3m to a smart novice at Warwick. He’ll enjoy the drop back in trip while Espoir De Guye has impressed at Exeter and Ascot since finishing second to Simply the Betts at Chepstow. The latter beat Imperial Aura here in January when Champagne Court and Jarveys Plate were behind. Galvin and Trainwreck are among those flying the Irish flag and the former may have been laid out for this. Earlofthecotswolds wasn’t winning out of turn at Exeter in December but a step up from 2m is likely to suit the imposing PRECIOUS CARGO. Though he won over 2m at Haydock on his chasing bow, he got outpaced in a Grade 2 at Warwick last time and gives the impression this test will bring about further improvement.
