Verdict

The Shunter is 2-2 here and equally effective over hurdles and fences, though 8lb higher than when winning over the larger obstacles 12 months ago. Gordon Elliott saddles four of the top six in the handicap and seven runners in total. The lightly-raced Indigo Breeze could be interesting with Jordan Gainford taking off a valuable 3lb but Robbie Power’s mount SAINT FELICIEN is preferred. Not many five-year-olds have run in this in recent years but those that have boast a decent record and, though beaten when odds-on for a Grade 3 at Naas in January, the son of Saint Des Saints gives the impression he is going to prove much better than a handicapper in time. Gowel Road has to go on the shortlist as he beat the progressive Unexpected Party on much worse terms over course and distance in November with subsequent runs coming over 2m. Camprond was in excellent form on the autumn and Good Risk At All would have a chance if getting a run from his reserve spot as he slammed Christopher Wood by nine lengths when stepping up in trip at Ascot. Drop The Anchor looks to have been laid out for this and ran well at The Festival last year so is also worth a second look.
