Verdict

The Cob had Castle Robin behind when springing a surprise in a Grade 2 at Doncaster but the drying ground won’t aid his cause. Adrimel also won a Grade 2, at Warwick, in January but is another who seems to need the mud. Stattler was third behind better-fancied stablemate Gaillard Du Mesnil over 2m6f at Leopardstown and a couple of lengths ahead of Fakiera but it would be no surprise if the hat-trick seeking Torygraph proved the pick of the Irish raiders having made significant progress since upped in distance. Barbados Buck's is upped in class but on a roll and wouldn’t be the first top stayer to emerge from the Nicholls stable wearing the Stewart family colours. He’s preferred to stable companion Threeunderthrufive but ALAPHILIPPE appeared to get stronger the further he went at Haydock and Paddy Brennan was able to apply the handbrake on the run-in – he looks an exciting prospect now he’s proved his stamina.
