Verdict

The drop in grade can help Royal Island win his first race since he was with Mark Johnston back in 2005, while Apache Dawn and One Called Alice may make the frame. The selection, Royal Island, has endured a very gradual slip down the handicap and has taken fully 25 races to drop 19lb. He is effective over this trip and on most going, and he can take advantage of his easiest task to date and score. Apache Dawn, like everything else in the race, is badly off at the weights here on official ratings, but at least he is next-best BHA rated and has form at the trip, and in this grade, so he is respected. One Called Alice won a fibresand handicap in June and has gone well in both sellers and claimers since without adding to her tally. Admirably consistent for one in this grade she can again pick up a few quid. Course and distance winner The Gaikwar is very much respected on ground he enjoys, and don¿t rule out Coup D¿Etat from an in-form yard and with conditions in his favour, but our idea of the winner is Royal Island.
